Mother Against Drunk Driving?

Are you a Mother against drunk driving? If you've seen the horrific info on drunk driving and the tragic results, you can't help but want the laws against drunk driving enforced and enhanced.

I'm personally not a fan of big government and all their nit-picking into our daily lives, but when it comes to drunk driving, the harsher the laws against drunk driving, the better!

It doesn't really matter if you are a mother, a father, a sister, a brother, a friend, a spouse, a distant relative, or even a complete stranger. The devastating results when people drive while under the influence can change your life and the lives of those you love.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving - M.A.D.D.

The official organization called Mothers Against Drunk Driving (or M.A.D.D.) was founded in 1980 by a lady whose daughter was killed by a drunk driver who was a repeat offender.

MADD is a non-profit organization that's done a whole lot of good in the last 30 years. As unbelievable as the grief must be for those who have lost loved ones or been wounded as a consequence of drunk driving, they have channeled their sorrow into a purpose and cause that is worthwhile - trying to stop further suffering by stomping out drunk driving.

One summer during my college years I had a job at a call center soliciting donations for the MADD organization. As much as I hated the job of "telephone solicitor," I was glad that at least I was annoying people for a good cause. :)

There are a number of different active campaigns that are underway to try to reduce the incidents of drunk driving in America and around the world.

  • Sobriety Checkpoints
  • Alcohol Ignition Interlock Technology for Offenders
  • Driver Alcohol Detection Systems

Young people tend to think they are invincible. They never think that an accident will happen to them or that they'll be the one to kill someone in an accident or be killed or maimed for life.

It's the job of responsible adults to make every effort to teach and train the young people in their care about the realities of alcohol use and abuse and all the dangers and consequences of driving while under the influence of alcohol.
